How to Find Love in a Bookshop: Writers Read Post #4
If you’ve talked books with me in the last year, I’ve probably recommended How to Find Love in a Bookshop by Veronica Henry. I've read a lot of books that take place in England. I love the names of the villages and how things are often described as "lovely". My mouth waters when the author describes a yummy dish I've never tried. If it's an audiobook, I enjoy listening to the pleasant accent. This book has all of those wonderful things, but for me, it rose to the top of others like it. For instance, I usually enjoy the setting, but kind of forget about it once I'm finished with the book. When you enter the village of Peasbrook, you’ll find yourself looking up flights to England and hoping you can find this village and all the wonderful characters there. If nothing else, you will find independent book sellers nearby and explore them because this book makes you want to browse the shelves of a family-owned bookstore and snuggle up with a good book and a coffee. And although I’m happily married, I did fall in love a little with the people in this book. It’s just that great.
How to Find Love in a Bookshop (click on the title to buy it on Amazon) is the story of Emilia Nightingale, who comes back home to take over her father’s bookshop after his death. She’s struggles to keep it open as the shop is prime real estate in Peasbrook. Emilia’s supported by a web of lovely (see what I did there?) characters whose stories have been affected by this little bookshop. I want to tell you more. I want to gush about all the sweet side stories the reader has a front-row seat for, but I don't want to give too much away, so I'll stop.
As a book lover, I feel like Veronica Henry was reading my diary when writing this. It underlines an opinion I’ve had for a long time: books have the power to teach, influence, and heal people in a way other kinds of media can’t.
How to Find Love in a Bookshop is your next read if:
You love books
You enjoy great characters
You want to travel, but it’s not in the budget right now
You are a person
This book is not a suspense. There aren’t major plot twists or surprises. Pick up an Agatha Christie book if that's what your looking for. This book is a wonderful story you’ll want to re-read as soon as you’re finished.
